There are many ways people make their decisions on chosing mates. I think some ways can be categorized in the decision-making strategies in psycology. The first way is single-feature model. This way can be used when people are like "He's hot gotten date him." or "No not dating him." Quick responeses. Another way is additive model. You can generate a list of factors like attractiveness, personality, values, morals, goals, interests, things like that and then rate which ones most important and then see if you'd want to date them. The last way is elimination by aspects model. This way is when you figure out whats most important and then think about the others little things that go along with it and then decide if you'd date them. Thats what I think about decision making and dating!

Although the expierenment did not find an exact answer to whether your parents have an influence on how one picks their mate, it was a very interesting post. I believe that parents do have some part in how one picks their significant other. Most of the men in my past relationships are all very similar in personality but have variations. Many of them have the same personality as my father. It may have nothing to do with genetics but just what is familiar. I hope that one day someone does find an experiment that can find better results for this. It may be helpful in lowering the diorce rate in the future if you can scientifically pick out your mate.
